Finalizing the Course

Hello!      Here's my final post of this term. I'm going to talk about the courrse shortly. Firstly, this course is a great follow-up to the last year's educational technologies course as it has allowed me to see how I can use the knowledge as a teacher. So, I'd say this link is a big strength of the course. Also, I believe the detailed instructions our instructor gave us made the course easier than it could have been. My favourite among the tasks we've done is the AR/VR material preparation, simply because it is more interesting, with the multimedia and the immersivity it includes. The one task I did not enjoy was the flipped classroom project because it was extra difficult to do with a partner. It was hard to find the right time and place for both of us to record the lesson. But this task and the corpus project is the first ones that come to my mind when I think about which ones I would use in my teaching career.      That's all I wanted to say. Tha...

AI Integrated Materials

Hello! I’m here with my final project for the Current Issues class! This one is a project on AI. I worked with Burçin Gümüş and Eda Gassaloğlu . We decided to work with the "Movies" unit in the prep-school book and speaking skills. Then , on  Canva ,  we designed the material  based on preparing a movie poster. The generative AI we provided in the material is Gencraft . For the pre-task, we added discussion questions and some tips. And for the post-task, we added reflection questions about the use of AI. This project was a bit similar to the Corpus project we did, so, it was not too challenging. Here’s our project. I'll see you in my final post!

AR/VR Technologies

Hi everyone!       I'm back with another project I did for my Current Issues class. For this one, I worked with Burçin Gümüş and Eda Gassaloğlu . We were tasked with making a handout that included QR codes to AR/VR material about two landmarks, one museum and a cultural aspect in a city. We picked Barcelona and chose the material we could work on. We found two 3D models for the landmarks, an  interactive VR tour for the museum, and three videos, including a VR one, for the festival. Then, we wrote questions about these materials and designed the handouts on Canva .      I think this technology is beneficial for language teaching as it simulates authentic language and settings as well as facilitating student engagement.     That's all for now. I'll see you soon!   See our project here.

Preparing Flipped Classroom Materials

Image
Hello! Welcome back! In this post I’ll tell you about my introduction to the flipped classroom approach and the assignment I did on it. Firstly, let’s talk about the approach. Flipped classroom is an approach that allocates the in-class time to activities while the instruction is done outside of the classroom beforehand. This approach can have advantages for language classes. Since the in-class time is only for the activities, the students will be able to get feedback and scaffolding from the instructor instantly, which are critical to second language learning. It will also be possible for the instructor to assess the students’ use of the language much further in the classroom. After learning about the approach, we were assigned to prepare a video, based on either grammar or vocabulary, for a flipped classroom. Hüdaye Nur Duranoğlu  and I collaborated to make a video on vocabulary. So, we prepared a presentation, based on the information on Cambridge Dictionary and Brit...

A Corpus Project

Image
Welcome Back! After a year, I am back to tell you about a new assignment I've done in a new course. In this course, Current Issues in ELT, we were supposed to create a corpus-based teaching material as a part of our final grade. So, I partnered up with İrem Çınar and we chose to design a material on "will" and "be going to" in English. Our objective, with this material, was to help students make the distinction between the use of these two items and our target audience was high school students. We focused on the functions and asked the students to pay attention to it during their corpus research. We designed the material simultaneously, using Canva .  See you next time! Here's the final product:

The Course Ends

HELLO! I'm writing for the Educational Technologies class for the last time and here's my thoughts:      My approach to the technology integration in English language teaching has not changed much, it was positive and still is. As for my own learning process, this class familiarized me with several tools that I will probably use in the future.     As I've implied before, I don't enjoy writing. So, any task that required a lot of it would be among my least favourites. What I enjoyed the most throughout the course was every chance I got to design something.      I think among all the tasks I've done, the most beneficial ones are the ones that allows the students to talk about their personal interests, like the movie review.     So, I've had an overall positive experience with a few stressful moments in this class. 😅 Thanks for reading...Bye! 🙋

Digital Poster

Hello! Here's my experience with creating a digital poster:      Out of two options, I chose to make a movie poster. The novel I chose was The Royal Game by Stefan Zweig. I chose this one because it is one of my favourites and while reading it, I remember imagining what a movie adaptation would look like.     I mainly used postermywall because there were a lot of options for making a movie poster. But for the distorted chess board, I used canva as the other tool did not offer that much customization.     This was one of my favourite projects as it was mainly visual. I am sure language students would find it fun like i did, but I don't think it is as effective as the previous projects for language learning.     This was my last task for the Educational Technologies class but I will post again. See you soon! Here is my poster:
