Preparing Flipped Classroom Materials

Hello!

Welcome back! In this post I’ll tell you about my introduction to the flipped classroom approach and the assignment I did on it. Firstly, let’s talk about the approach. Flipped classroom is an approach that allocates the in-class time to activities while the instruction is done outside of the classroom beforehand. This approach can have advantages for language classes. Since the in-class time is only for the activities, the students will be able to get feedback and scaffolding from the instructor instantly, which are critical to second language learning. It will also be possible for the instructor to assess the students’ use of the language much further in the classroom.

After learning about the approach, we were assigned to prepare a video, based on either grammar or vocabulary, for a flipped classroom. Hüdaye Nur Duranoğlu and I collaborated to make a video on vocabulary. So, we prepared a presentation, based on the information on Cambridge Dictionary and British Council on “the uses of must” with Canva. Then, we recorded our instruction on it, where Nur did the first half, and I did the second. We put the recording on the slides by using the video making app CapCut and did a few adjustments and cuts. We also prepared the material for in-class use on Canva. Since both of these tools are simple and easy to use, we did not have any problems in the process. Finally, we uploaded the video on Youtube.
